Police Commissioner Meets with Residents.

Mrs Attwood, the State Member for Mt Ommaney, invited Jamboree residents to meet with the Police Commissioner, Mr Bob Atkinson Tuesday evening, 18 October, 2011.  Her initial invite was as follows:

Greetings!

You are warmly invited to attend a community meeting with the Police Commissioner Bob Atkinson APM to be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 18 October 2011 at the Jindalee Bowls Club, corner of Sinnamon and Yallambee Roads Jindalee.

I have asked Commissioner Atkinson to address local groups in my electorate about a number of issues including:

  • Crime statistics in the Oxley Police District;
  • Police resourcing for the area and safety in the neighbourhood;
  • The role of Police in responding to natural disasters; and
  • An update on the Wacol Police Academy

You are most welcome to come along to meet Commissioner Atkinson and talk to him first hand about any concerns you have in relation to policing in our community.  Please RSVP to my office by Friday 14 October on 32795137 or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Yours sincerely

Julie Attwood MP

State Member for Mt Ommaney

Parliamentary Secretary for Health

JRA had registered three issues with Mrs Attwood for Commissioner Atkinson.

  • In 2010, JRA met with the Police Minister, the Commissioner and his police team at the Community Cabinet meeting at Forrest Lake to discuss speeding issues in 40 km/h zone of Andaman Street Jamboree Heights. Shortly afterwards the Police Minister announced in the Courier Mail that there would be a stronger police presence in suburban streets to enforce speeding in 40, 50 and 60 km/h zones.

Question: This enforcement doesn’t appear to be happening? (see update below)

  • During 2010, the residences of Jamboree Heights were subjected to numerous break and entries and the incidence of some resident/s firing marbles by ging-shot.  Mt Ommaney police, partly with your intervention, were very active in their attempt to solve the problem but were hampered in their investigations by the archaic methods of central reporting of night shift reports from officers in patrol cars from other police stations within the district.

Question: Has the Police Dept. adopted any new computer programs since August 2010 that can correlate Night Police Shift Reports from officers from various Police Stations within a Police District into various categories by crime offence and suburban frequency and breakdown?

Question: Can the Commissioner give a report on the prosecution sentencing of the person/s who was detained for committing these offences?

  • Over recent years there appears to be a lack of crime reporting in our local newspapers.

Question: Is there a reason for this?

UPDATE

Mt Ommaney Police officers were in Andaman Street on Saturday, 15 October, 2011 from 2pm monitoring for speeding drivers.

Business was brisk, with a few motorists receiving either cautions or offence notices.

The police officers reported that they had conducted similar visits recently and more were on the agenda.

One local resident, who had placed a complaint with Mt Ommaney Police Station re speeding occurrences in Andaman Street, reported a marked reduction in speeding while the police were in action.

Several visits have been conducted by officers concerning noise and parking infringements in the last 10 days (most notably in the areas of Pennant, Bollard, Spinnaker & Andaman Streets).

MEETING REPORT TO BE POSTED IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

JRA DISCUSSION AGENDA TOPICS WITH CR BOURKE

Date:               Tuesday, 20 September, 2011 @ 9.30am

Present:          Cr. Bourke and JRA President W Williams

  • SIROCCO INTERSECTION SIGNALIZED TRAFFIC LIGHTS?

$15,000 budgeted for traffic study – all existing lights along Dandenong road to be put on same smart system and coordinated.

JRA expressed concerns that if a full set of lights were installed at the Sirocco/Central/Dandenong intersection that they might encourage the use on Galleon Street as an alternative route to Mt Ommaney Shopping Centre. JRA also expressed concerns that if entry and exit intervals at the Kentucky lights were reduced, it could encourage more motorists to use the Andaman Street access point.

NO FIRM COMMITTMENT THAT LIGHTS WILL BE INSTALLED OR FUNDS AVAILABLE– STILL TAKING SUBMISSIONS. WE AWAIT THE FINDINGS OF THE TRAFIC SURVEY.

  • FOOTPATH CONSTRUCTION IN GALLEON ST.

NOW STARTED

  • REQUEST FOR KERB CUTS IN ANDAMAN STREET GUTTER TO RELEASE SEEPAGE FROM MOTORWAY?

Cr Bourke will take request to relevant council authority – NO FIRM COMMITMENT

PROGRESS ON SUMNER/DANDENONG RD INTERSECTION - STAGE 1?

NOW OPERATIONAL.

  • JAMBOREE PARK - UPGRADES

Cr Bourke is still taking submissions from interested residents. The approved Sheoak Park playground improvements in Middle Park got the go ahead for funding over Jamboree Park because at present there was only 1 set of swings in this park.  JRA will continue to put forward the needs of Jamboree Park (Guide Street, Jamboree Heights).

ALL PARK UPGRADE FUNDING IS TO BE APPROVED BY BCC PARK AUTHORITY.

UPDATE!!    RESIDENTS CAN MEET CR BOURKE AT:

JAMBOREE PARK ON SATURDAY, 22 OCTOBER, 2011 BETWEEN 10-11am TO DISCUSS PLANS.

  • STORM WATER ROOF RUN-OFF PROBLEM WITH 50 GALLEON ST and ROAD RESURFACING NEAR SPEED BUMP AT ANDAMAN STREET ENTRY?

Cr Bourke has addressed the issue with the owner and has reported the matter to relevant council authority for remedial action. Council is to resurface section of Andaman Street adjacent to 50 Galleon St between speed bump and AMP entry. The timing is subject to the availability of road surfacing crew.

THE ROAD RESURFACING WORK IS NOW COMPLETED

  • COMMUNITY CENTRE PROGRESS – DESIGN AND BOOKING PROCESS?

Council has a three year lease with option of 3 x 3 thereafter. Cr Bourke was unclear as to whether both parties could exercise ‘the Option’. The Ray White building was demolished because of white ant damage. The Community Centre Steering Committee was still deciding room design and booking procedures. The opening time will evolve as construction continues.

  • NEIGHBOURING RESIDENTS ISSUES WITH DOGS/PARKING/OVER POPULATING OF RESIDENCES?

Cr Bourke’s made comment was that five unrelated people can reside in the one house and showed only minor interest in this topic.

  • LORD MAYOR’S NEW SUBURBAN INITIVE FUND AMOUNT?

NOW SET AT $50,000 per ELECTORAL WARD.

JRA REITERATED ITS CURRENT JAMBOREE WARD “WISH LIST”

  • FOOTPATH WIDENING FOR HORIZON DRIVE; ANDAMAN ST; AND DANDENONG RD OVER COMING YEARS.

  • PEDESTRIAN CROSSING OF DANDENONG ROAD NEAR SIROCCO STREET.

  • PARK UPGRADES IN JAMBOREE PARK – CHILDREN PLAY EQUIPMENT AND PARK EVENTS FACILITIES.

Energy Conservation Community Program

JRA Executive is corresponding with Energex on ways that we can assist members with reducing their electricity bills.

JRA’S last promotion on the installation of home solar electricity generation, has delivered remarkable cost savings for those that proceeded with the installation.  A few residents have reported that they paid nothing for their last (winter) electricity bill and one resident received a $50 rebate.

NB: JRA encourages residents to take into account all costs (e.g. installation, maintenance, upgrades, etc) when making their decisions re any alternative energy.  It is important to examine all aspects when calculating potential savings.  Ultimately, you are responsible for your own decisions and results.

Even though the installation subsidy has been reduced, it is not too late to apply. Over supply of home generated electricity is causing some problems with transformers in some locations throughout Qld. resulting in their applications to-connect to be denied.  If you are still considering, then don’t dally.

Jamboree Heights is one of the selected suburbs in Brisbane in which Energex is launching their new energy saving programme.  Your executive, working in conjunction with the Westside Church, has arranged with Energex to conduct an information evening on Monday, 28 November, 2011.  Once the final arrangements are made, you will be notified.

JRA correspondence with Energex:

From November 2011, residents of Jamboree Heights and JRA will be able to join the energy conservation communities (ECC) program.
The ECC program is a sustainability initiative aimed at reducing peak demand by encouraging communities to make simple changes to the way electricity is used. The program is FREE to join and each resident can receive incentives valued up to $600 towards electricity saving equipment and installation.
In addition, for every resident who is a member of JRA who participates, a $50 donation is added to the Powerpact Community Partnership Fund. Powerpact support local community groups and schools by providing financial assistance towards energy conservation, sustainability and demand management projects. We would welcome the opportunity to attend one of your meetings to discuss how JRA could benefit from the program and also a general discussion on the energy industry in South East Queensland. Further to our conversation today, we are willing to provide assistance in marketing materials for the day (letter box drop and ad in local newspaper).

We would be looking to hold the presentation sometime in November.  The more that join and reduce their electricity bill, the more $$$ that could be made available to assist JRA in continuing with the enhancement work of our suburb.

JRA & BRU - The Reasons PDF Print E-mail
Written by Site Admin
Thursday, 21 July 2011 14:09

Message from JRA President.

WHY JAMBOREE RESIDENTS "JRA" JOINED BRISBANE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION "BRU"

Jamboree Residents Association Inc. members made a decision to join BRU for the following reasons:

  • JRA would retain its own autonomy on issues affecting Jamboree Heights, but could draw on the experiences and expertise from other resident associations.JRA is not "anti-development". However, JRA was keen to participate in the management of growth in Brisbane to ensure there is no detrimental impact on our living standards or sense of community.
  • The precinct area of JRA has two separate zones directly involving 70 residences where low-medium density housing has been approved in the future under the Centenary Neighbourhood Plan – north of Galleon Street and west of Patrol Street.
  • Obtain better knowledge on the community consultations processes with town planning pertaining to heavier density of living that is occurring in Brisbane. This includes changes to land classification for both residential and commercial development projects under enacted Neighbourhood Plans throughout Brisbane, and improvements in transportation corridors.
  • It is the aim of BRU to be invited to attend and have input at the early consultation stages of any proposed re-development project.Obtain better knowledge on the steps to be taken to protect our members in the case of developers and construction companies who contravene Development Approval Conditions. This would include projects directly or indirectly controlled by all three levels of government.
  • JRA was satisfied that the representatives from various resident groups, that attended the Steering Committee meetings, were without a political agenda.
  • JRA president Wayne Williams has been elected to the BRU Executive and has put forward smaller ticket items for consideration: Lobby State government for increased police surveillance of speeding motorists through local and rat running routes. Lobby BCC for kerbside numbering throughout Brisbane. Play activity improvements in our parks. More footpaths.

Regards

Wayne Williams

Jamboree Park Upgrade & Survey PDF Print E-mail
Written by Andrea Crouch

JAMBOREE PARK (GUIDE STREET UPGRADE) & SURVEY.

At the behest of Jamboree Residents Association (JRA), Cr Bourke has instigated a survey amongst residents seeking opinions on the need for Jamboree Park entertainment/ amusement/exercise facility upgrades.  By completing this survey in a positive manner presents an opportunity for residents to contribute to the social needs of our Suburb.

Jamboree Park was created by “Hookers”, the main developers of the Centenary Suburbs, as a site to commemorate the Australia Scout Jamboree in 1969 – hence the naming of this park and our suburb.  The central location and smallish size of Jamboree Park lends to promoting activities catering for our young families and elderly within walking/cycling distance.  At present, this well treed park is under-utilised even though it sits between residential housing, walkway connection from Dandenong Road to the eastern side of Jamboree Heights, and is easily accessible to all pedestrians of Jamboree Heights and Middle Park.  Photos can be found by clicking here.

Here are some infrastructure improvements that have been suggested by our residents and JRA members:

· Upgrade of climbing and play apparatus (catering for under10 year olds).

· Improved low level lighting for better night security (could be solar powered).

· BBQ facilities and external power point access.

· Increase seating.

· Levelling and grassing of a small area for staging/exercising location.

Construction of a 300 metre perimeter walking exercise track with basic outdoor static exercise apparatus.

JRA Executive urges you to consider the needs for all of your fellow residents and support this survey.  You can contact Cr. Bourke’s office and also JRA with your support for the suggestions above or others you may have.

As you may have noticed,  JRA is very active in accomplish better utilisation of Jamboree Height’s limited green belts, as is evident with planting in the nature strip along Andaman Street and the recent park/creek cleanup in Beanland Park as part of JRA’s “Clean Up Australia Day” Project.

It takes community participation, working with BCC, State and Federal Governments to make our suburb a better place to live in.  By supporting these projects and joining Jamboree Residents Association are excellent ways to receive a greater rate return for Jamboree Heights.

Please complete the following, or create an email response, and forward to us (see above) to pass in mass to Cr Bourke .  Remember, a non response is considered a ‘No” vote by the Council.  Thank you for your time and interest.
